Locational Astrology (aka Astrocartography, aka Relocation Astrology) is a birth chart analysis technique that explores how your life story can be influenced by location. Our natal charts are fixed, but they are also three dimensional. When transposed on a map of the world, it is possible to pinpoint the exact locations of the energetic influences that can turn the volume up, or down, on a specific area in your life.
This means certain places in the world will carry the energy of specific parts of your chart, and can help you make more strategic choices about where you live, work, and vacation.
Discovered by Jim Lewis in 1979, this technique once required tedious manual mapping and measurements, but more recent technological advances mean the magic astrocartography unlocks is more accessible than ever.
Which cities and countries?
That answer lies in your unique map, which is based on your unique birth chart. TikTok or Instagram Reels might tell you that if you travel to your Venus line you will be more likely to find love, but, as I’ve learned over my year-long certification course, it’s not quite that simple. You can certainly play around with a free version of your map - as I did when I first learned about astrocartography - but getting a reading from someone with professional software and an understanding of the dozens of factors to be considered in the analysis might be a safer bet.
The practice that started it all
The only reason I discovered astrology is because I was curious about astrocartography. I was one of the people intrigued by a short TikTok video, and spent some time hopelessly clicking around my own map, not really understanding what I was looking at, but seeing enough interesting coincidences that I wanted to dig further. It was only after I arrived to Croatia for the start of my brain detox that I learned that the entire technique relied on a thorough grasp of astrology! Thus, my journey began, and the rest is… well, this!
Something I wish I'd known a few years ago!
In 2021, my mom and I took a trip to Costa Rica to celebrate my 36th birthday. I've never met a person with a bad thing to say about Costa Rica, and I'm on a girls trip with my mother - the recipe for an amazing trip was there. But, while we had some nice experiences, the trip does not make my Top Ten list. Nothing specific went wrong, but I am not anxious to go back
Why didn't Pura Vida activate the optimistic and carefree state of mind it is famous for?
I have since learned that Costa Rica is in the direct path of my Saturn line. Saturn is a planet that represents discipline, restriction, serious conversation and pessimism. There were a few other chart factors that, for simplicity's sake I won't get into, that added to this sense of detachment
Had I known this at the time, I would have realized that this would have been a good place to get down to business, but for me, it was not well suited to live Pura Vida
