Why Birth Time Matters

An astrological chart with zodiac symbols arranged in a circle, including planets and other celestial points marked with different symbols and degree positions within each zodiac sign.

The most important piece of information required to get an accurate birth chart is your birth time. Here’s why.

I recently pulled the birth chart for a friend's child, who is a friendly and outgoing toddler - but that's not what this chart shows. When we discussed the incongruity, my friend realized she had provided the wrong birth time

A complex astrological natal chart with zodiac signs, planets, and astrological aspects marked, including the ascendant and midheaven.

Changing the time by 25 minutes doesn’t usually significantly affect the planets' relationship with one another, but it DOES change their position on the wheel, which indicates the area of life where these planets will show up. It also changes the sign of the Ascendent - a major part of your personality. In this case, the difference would have been significant

The most accurate place to find your birth time is your birth certificate. The least accurate place is from your mother's post-traumatic-birth-brain (unless it's a steel trap), decades later

"3pm-ish, or "sometime in the wee hours of the morning," or "right after the shift change," might yield an accurate chart, but it could also completely change it

I don't want to be in the position of charging you for a product that is based on inaccurate information. While it's ultimately your decision if you want to take the chance due to the level of personalization in the workbook, it is not possible to update it with a new time

If you don't have a copy of your birth certificate or can't confirm your birth time for other reasons, there are professionals who can do what's called a "chart rectification," but that is beyond my own capabilities
